Description
This biography of Marcelo H. Del Pilar narrates the life of a Filipino hero who is known in our history as a journalist and writer who fought for the rights of equality for his fellow Filipinos and reform of the government of the Spanish colonial period. His work as the editor of the newspaper of the Reform Movement in Spain, the La Solidaridad, and his satirical writings against the Spaniards and friars proved to many generation then and now that the “pen is mightier than sword” in changing minds and attitudes in a society that was rife with corruption.
But aside from his bravery, Del Pilar’s life story is also a story of sacrifice when he had to leave his family in the Philippines and continue the fight for reforms in Europe to escape persecution in his homeland. In the end, although loving his country to his last breath, his death comes as a final sacrifice for his motherland.
