Winner, 1989 PBBY-Salanga Writer’s Price
The Song of Pulaw is a modern interpretation of the Creation story, a theme popular in indigenous oral literature, and in many religions. Humanity’s growing concern for our endangered environment has been woven into the story by the author. This is the author’s translation of his original story in Filipino, ANG AWIT NI PULAW , which won the Grand Prize in the 1989 PBBY-Salanga Writer’s Prize. PBBY stands for Philippine Books on Board for Young People, which promotes the writing, illustration, and reading of children’s books in the Philippines. The first edition of THE SONG OF PULAW was published in 1992 through a grant from Unicef.
