A long time ago, in the town of Pateros, the townsfolk had a problem. Every morning, they discovered their nets torn and their ducks disappearing. Someone or something was taking their ducks! After sounding the alarm and forming patrols, they discovered the culprit swimming in the Pateros River.
The people were desperate. If they do not overcome this predator, they will soon have no balut to sell. Gathering at the San Roque Church, they prayed to the town’s patroness, Santa Marta.
