Rigid Motion: A Story about Ninette De Las Peñas

135.00

The Women of Science series of children’s books features stories from the careers of some of the Philippines’ most respected female scientists. It is hoped that these stories find their way into the hearts and minds of our young girls in particular, to spark in them the curiosity and wonder that may lead them to becoming women of science themselves. This series was made possible by the National Book Development Board through its National Book Development Trust Fund Program and its subcommittee on Gender Studies.

“Math is a language just like any other.” Yes, but in the case of Dr. Ma. Louise Antonee “Ninee” De Las Peñas she saw mathematical harmony on the pattern designs of the humble table mat! Known for her work on mathematical crystallography, color symmetry, and hyperbolic geometry, tilings, among others. Dr. De Las Peñas was the lone female and the only representative from Southeast Asia who was elected as a member of the Commission on Mathematical and Theoretical Crystallography in 2014.
