Dr. Taboada holds patents for technologies related to the treatment of fruit wastes. For developing these technologies, she was conferred the WIPO’s gold medal for inventors two times. She also received the Commission on Higher Education’s Republica award in 2007 and the Ambassador Alfredo M. Yao Intellectual Property Award in 2012. In 2015, she received the Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award from the ASEAN Green Award and the Prize for Engineering Excellence from the Manila Water Foundation. To Dr. Taboada, the greatest value of the work lies in helping the poorest of the poor by giving them dignified, meaningful work. She says, “This is the only other way to break the cycle of poverty.”
